The holiday season is coming, and you might be wondering, “How can I manage full time blogging AND the holidays?” This is such a difficult question because you want to spend time with your family and friends, but you also don’t want to neglect your business.
The short answer is this: Yes, you should continue full time blogging during the holidays. Especially if you make money on your blog, you shouldn’t neglect it! However, this does not mean you need to spend every waking hour attending to it.
It’s all about balance. Some days you might be out Christmas shopping all day long, then come home exhausted, and cannot even bear the thought of working on your blog. Other days, it might just be a lazy Sunday morning where you have a couple of hours to spare.
If blogging is something you truly enjoy and it makes you happy, spend more time doing it! Do what makes you happy, and if that means skipping working on your blog for a day to hang out with your family, so be it.
Life is short, do what you are passionate about!
The holiday season can get extremely chaotic, but there are still ways to manage both your business and your family. Let’s go through a handful of tips that will hopefully help you find that perfect balance of work and play!

plan as much as possible in advance
Perhaps the best way to maintain full time blogging during the holidays is to plan as much as you can in advance! By having everything automatically posted and ready to go, you can spend more time with your family and getting things ready for the holidays, and less time stressing about your blog!
Here are some things you should try to plan in advance, and tips for how to do so!
Schedule pins in advance
Unless you are a SEO master and you have thousands of page views a day coming from search engines, chances are you are familiar with using Pinterest to drive traffic. If not, check out these Pinterest tips to help you get started.
Otherwise, you already know the importance of using Pinterest, and chances are you have some kind of routine or strategy. However, Pinterest is super time consuming, and it takes a lot of effort to maintain!
In order to keep things up and running during the holidays, you will need to plan your pins in advance. Take a day (ok let’s face it, probably a few days), to mass create pins. I’m talking hundreds. More than you ever thought you would need. Create enough to get you through the next few weeks, month, or however long you need.
Next, you will need to schedule them. I recommend using Tailwind, which you can use to schedule pins for months in advance! If not you can use the Pinterest scheduler, though you will need to schedule one pin at a time which will be super time consuming if you have hundreds of pins!
You can also consider hiring a Virtual Assistant to manage your Pinterest account for you! This can be pricy though, so depending on your budget, this may or not be a great option!
Schedule content in advance
This is a tricky one and requires the most effort on your part, but scheduling your content in advance is so important to keep full time blogging during the holidays. Your content is the foundation of your blog, so it is super important you keep posting!
Search engines (and readers) like to see consistent, high quality posts, so you won’t want to leave them hanging for weeks or months!
However, this will require a lot of planning and work on your part. You will need to decide what you want to write about for the next few weeks (or months, or however long you are planning for), then actually write the content.
Even if you just aim for one post a week (or less, depending on how many posts you already have), that should be enough to maintain consistency!
Luckily, you can plan when you want to publish your post straight through WordPress, which makes it very easy to schedule!
Schedule social media, emails in advance
Lastly, you will want to schedule your social media posts and email newsletters in advance. Luckily, they make this pretty easy to do, it just requires some planning and effort on your part.
You can easily create a handful of newsletters, tweets, or instagram posts, and plan them to go out on certain dates! Just set it and forget it!
This will free up some of your time during the holidays that you would otherwise have to be stuck on social media.
Think about anything else you regularly do during the week, and check to see if you can plan it early! The less you have to worry about, the better!
How to find time to blog
Even if you do plan and schedule everything in advance, chances are, there will still be some things you have to manually maintain. Maybe you ran out of pins and need to make some more, there might be emails that need answering, or issues with your site. If this is the case, you will need to find some time for full time blogging during the holidays.
This doesn’t have to be stressful though! I guarantee you can find at least some time during the day, even between a full time job, kids, and preparing for the holidays.
Try to find even 30 minutes a day, or even just 20! Or 10! Any amount of time is better than nothing at this point.
Maybe you can wake up 30 minutes earlier, and get some work done in bed before taking on the day. Or the opposite- do a little bit of work before going to bed.
Maybe you can do some work while sipping your morning coffee, or mindlessly make some pins while watching your favorite TV show. Heck, maybe just answer some emails on the toilet!
Whatever you gotta do, you can make it happen. If this is important to you, you will find a way! Make it a priority, and the rest will follow!
Don't be afraid to say no
Another important way to continue full time blogging during the holidays is to say no when you need to. If you feel like you really need to spend a bit of time working, so be it!
There can be so many parties and events during the holiday season, that chances are, you will need to say no to at least one of them. Don’t feel bad!
Simply say you have to work, and leave it as that. Many people don’t understand what bloggers truly do, so just saying you have work is a good way to explain it.
Plus, this is a good excuse if you just really don’t feel like doing something 😉
Unless you truly do want to go. Then of course, GO! Life is more important than work, always.
The most important tip I have for you is to just enjoy yourself! The holidays are about spending time with loved ones, so try not to get too caught up in your business.
Yes, your blog is important. But so is you well being! Finding a good balance here will be extremely important to your happiness over the holidays.
If you don’t feel like working on day and want to go to that Christmas event, GO! If you don’t feel like going anywhere and just want to sit on the couch and work on your blog, so be it!
Follow what you truly want, and the rest will follow.
