Determine top posts

Once you’ve met the Mediavine requirements, the first thing to do to make more money on Mediavine is to take note of your top posts. There are a couple of ways you can go about this.
One way is to look at your top performing posts, meaning, what posts get the highest amount of page views. To do this, go to your Mediavine dashboard and scroll almost all the way to the bottom to the section that says, “Top pages for this range”. Here, you can filter by views to determine which pages get the most views.
Secondly, you can take a look at which pages have the highest RPM. In the same section, you can filter by RPM to see which pages are the highest.
Regardless of which route you take, write down the top 10 posts. These will be the posts you optimize with the suggestions I will discuss in the remainder of this article!
Make posts longer

One of the easiest ways to make more money on Mediavine is the make your posts longer. Have you ever noticed sometimes websites seem unnecessarily long, and you are scrolling and scrolling just to get to the answer to your question?
There is a great reason for this: more scrolling equals more room for ads, which equals more money!
Even if you have not met the Mediavine requirements just yet, you should take some time to go through your posts and make them longer so you are well prepared for when you do get accepted!
There are a few ways you can make your posts longer:
Add more white space

The more white space you have in a post, the more room for Mediavine to place ads. White space is just what it sounds like- where there is nothing- no text or media.
One great way to do this is to separate your paragraphs.
A paragraph should be no longer than 3 sentences. This not only helps make it easier for users to read your content, but also increases the amount of scrolling users have to do to read your entire page.
You can also try varying the length of your paragraphs. For example, maybe make one line stand on its own, then make the next paragraph 2 sentences. Chunk your paragraphs like how you talk.
You know those people who text you a million times, where each text is a different thought? Think of it like that!
You can also increase the length of your spacers. Spacers are your friend when it comes to adding white space, as they are essentially just that- white space!
Add spacers before and after each header, and between photos. Spacers also break up your content, which helps make it easier to read, so it’s a win-win!
Increase font size and line height

Another way to make your posts longer is to increase the font size and line height. Usually, your font size is automatically set to about 14. While this is a decent size, is it quite small, especially on a desktop.
By increasing the font size, you will increase the amount of space your text takes up, which means more scrolling and a longer post!
You should also increase your line height. This is the space in between each line of text. This is something that is not really noticeable, so you can easily increase it without making your post look weird.
Mediavine recommends increasing your text size to 18px, and increasing your line height to 1.6.
You can also begin to do this step even if you have not yet met the Mediavine requirements, since this takes some time!
Add more text

Another way to make more money on Mediavine (and make your post longer) is to add more text. Seems pretty obvious! The more text, the longer your post.
Some say your blog post should be at the very least, 500 words. However, a general rule is the longer the better (up to a certain point- no one wants to read a novel!).
If you only have 500 words, there is not much room for ads. However, if you have 2000 words, there is much more room for ad placement!
I typically aim to write about 2000 words per post. Sometimes this varies, depending on the topic though. Sometimes it is more, and sometimes it is less.
Write as much as you need to, not as much as you can.
Meaning, don’t write a bunch of fluff just to fill up space. Make it meaningful to your readers!
optimize your side bar

If you already are accepted into Mediavine, chances are you have a side bar. The side bar is an optimal place for advertisements, so make sure it is cleaned up!
The less you have in your side bar, the more room there is for ads. Plus, having too much in your side bar looks messy and busy. Stick to 3 widgets at the most!
For example, I have just an about me section, and a widget that allows users to search by topic. This is plenty! Don’t overload your side bar, and leave room for what matters most- ads!
This is another thing you can do even if you haven’t met the Mediavine requirements- it will save some time later!
Increase your blog traffic

The most important way to make more money on Mediavine is to increase your traffic. If you haven’t met the Mediavine requirements, you’ll definitely need to pay attention to this one!
The more traffic you get to your website, the more ad impressions you get, meaning more money!
This is easier said than done, however, your sky high RPM means nothing if you don’t have any traffic!
There are tons of ways you can increase your traffic, and I am sure you are already well aware of them! Here are some resources that might help you increase your blog traffic:
If all else fails, focus on getting more traffic to your blog, which will always increase the amount of money you make!
Use video ads

Video ads are often overlooked as a way to make more money on Mediavine. Myself included, many bloggers think you have to have professional quality videos in order to use video ads.
This couldn’t be farther from the truth! All you need is about video ranging from 45 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds.
If the thought of making a video is stressful to you, Mediavine will make one for you! Just fill out this form.
However, it really is super simple to make videos. Especially for the sake of Mediavine ads, your video does NOT have to be high quality whatsoever. Pretty much any video related to your content will do!
I have absolutely zero knowledge when it comes to editing videos, and I managed just fine! I use Lumen5 to make my videos. It is a free editing website (unless you want the premium version, which isn’t necessary).
Lumen5 allows you to put in the URL of one of your blog posts, and automatically tries to make a video out of it. They aren’t always accurate, but editing is very easy, and they actually make pretty decent looking videos!
Once you’ve made a video, just upload it to the videos section of your Mediavine dashboard. An ad will appear in the beginning (just like when you are watching a youtube video), and you will get paid from these impressions!
Edit ad frequency and spacing

Another way to make more money on Mediavine is to change your ad frequency and spacing. You can find this by going to your Mediavine dashboard- settings- in-content ads.
Here, you can change ad settings for both mobile devices and desktop. I currently have my ad frequency set to 30% for both mobile and desktop, which is the highest they allow. They are set for every 2 paragraphs, and my ad limit is set to optimized for content length.
Yours might look different. Play around with different options, and see what works best for your site!
